How We Review Furniture
PlushQuarters exists to answer one question the rest of the furniture world tends to skip: what is this thing actually made of, and will it last? Styled photos and sponsored roundups are everywhere. Independent, evidence-first decisions are not. That gap is our job.
We are an independent research desk, and we say so plainly. We are not a showroom, and we do not stage living-room "tests" for photos. What we do is read the whole picture — published dimensions and materials documentation, warranty fine print, and large samples of real owner reviews — and turn it into a scored, comparable verdict. When a claim can only be settled by living with a piece for years, we lean on the people who have, and we say so.
The scoring rubric
Every guide runs the same five-axis rubric, so a $300 loveseat and a $3,000 sectional are judged on one sheet.
- Construction & materials
- What the piece is actually made of versus what the listing implies — frame lumber, suspension type, foam density, board grade, finish.
- Durability signals
- How the piece holds up in year two and three — weighed from warranty terms, materials specs, and large samples of long-term owner reports.
- Comfort & fit
- Seat depth, firmness, mechanism feel, and sizing — read from published dimensions and the patterns in owner reviews, stated as patterns, not lab claims.
- Pricing & value
- Published price against the field, what the everyday price really is versus the sale banner, and delivery/assembly costs that hide in the checkout.
- Service & warranty
- Warranty length and what it excludes, replacement-part availability, and how owners report the delivery, returns, and claims experience.
Where our numbers come from
Dimensions, materials, warranty terms, and shipping policies are drawn from each retailer's own product pages and documentation. We cross-reference them against aggregated owner reviews to catch the gap between the listing and the living room — the "solid wood" that turns out to be a veneer over particle board, the cushion that flattens by spring, the white-glove delivery that ends at the curb.
Furniture prices move constantly, so any figure on the site is a snapshot. The live number always comes from the retailer at the moment you click through, which is why our links go straight to the current listing rather than quoting a number we cannot keep current.
Always current
Furniture lines change often — fabrics rotate, frames get re-sourced, prices move. When a line changes or a price moves, we update the affected guides — and the date you see reflects that real change, not a cosmetic refresh. “Independent and honest” is the promise, so we hold ourselves to it.
