Engineered Wood
Engineered wood covers manufactured boards: plywood (layered veneers, the strongest), MDF (dense fiberboard, stable and paintable), and particle board (chips and glue, the cheapest). Quality varies enormously by grade. Plywood in a sofa frame or drawer box is respectable; bare particle board in load-bearing spots is where budget furniture sags first.
